Stage voor Strijkers - Summercamp for Strings

English scroll down...

Laurel & Hardy's Holiday on Strings is a summercamp for stringplayers from the 3th till the 7th of August 2015, under the direction of Carla Van Geel and me. You're welcome if you play violin, alto, cello or double bass (swingbass and walking bass-lessons)!

Laurel & Hardy are two comic, silent movie figures. Caracteristics for these movies from the interbellum* were the black/white images, a playback speed that was faster than reality, the acting was mime** and the music was played live - in real time - in theatres***!

* Interbellum: on this stringcamp we 'll mainly make music from the era between World War I and World War II (1918 - 1940) in the United States: Leroy Anderson, Charlie Chaplin (yes, he wrote music ;°), Scott Joplin, George Gershwin, Cole Porter, ... Click here for more information on content (Dutch!).
** Mime: also called 'art of silence', is a form of acting with lots of gestures instead of spoken words. Stanley Laurel & Oliver Hardy - as Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton - were master of mime. The first talkies - spoken movies - were made in the late twenties.
*** Live in theatres: especially stringinstruments are able to extract more than music from their strings. Crazy, creepy, funny, groovy, glassy, ... sounds will add a soundtrack to the silent, black/white movies on our summer stringcamp.

A Brave New Album - Een Heerlijk Nieuw Hoorspel

English scroll down...

The English head of this article refers to the quasi similar book 'A Brave New World', but has no connection to it. The head concerns my newest album 'March Of The Masalians' that is presented the 29th of March 2015 in De Movri. I described the album in a previous article and one can order it via:
The Dutch head of this article means 'A Ravishing Radio Play' and refers to Masala's show. This musical show, with a lot of knowhow and 'wow', with shades of theatre, dance, mime and other artforms, is presented the 29th of March 2015 in De Movri. More information: www.masalamusic.be

The violin and her player have a prominent role in Masala's show, a mix of styles/cultures, artforms, emotions, ...
  • Violintechniques originating from all over the world (and from outer space, 'cause Masalians are after all not from this world) are put together: Swinging bowtechniques, Chinese glissando's, Irish and Eastern-European ornaments, howling as in Rock, Classical vibrato, Bluegrass-grooves, Natural harmonics, ...
  • Besides his violin, the player handles other instruments and sings together with other bandmembers of Masala. Repeatedly he changes into an actor or performs the 'art of silence'.
